Real-time Regional Soundtracks (2014)
A pair of leather headphones made from leather using conductive thread and lederhosen relief embroidery to embed a simple microcontroller circuit. The controller measures the variance of a light dependent resistor (LDR) mounted on the top of the leather headphones, and uses the incoming value to generate frequencies. Frequencies are amplified with at transistor and played out through relief embroidered speakers.
A series of headgear made using different traditionally Austrian craft techniques (leather-work embroidery, knitting, lacemaking/goldhauben, cross-stitch….).
Each version of headgear is designed to detect typically “Austrian” interactions, using the wearers movements and encounters with the environment to generate a real-time regional (synthesized) soundtrack. Imagine riding a mountain bike through a forest of trees im Waldviertel on a sunny day, or skiing down a muggel piste in the Dachstein Tauern, or sitting in a sauna after a long hike…. all this while listening to a real-time regional soundtrack.
